Applies to smokeping.nl. Controller: IP Volume Inc., an international business company registered in the Seychelles, which operates the IP Volume network (AS202425). Contact for anything in this notice: noc@ipvolume.net. Last updated 12 October 2026.
This is a public SmokePing instance. It shows latency, packet loss and jitter measured from the IP Volume network towards the infrastructure of internet service providers and hosting companies worldwide. The measurement targets are routers, name servers and mail servers operated by those providers; they are never end-user devices.
The site sets no cookies, uses no analytics or advertising services and loads no resources from third parties. Nothing about your visit is shared with anyone.
Like any web server, ours records each request: your IP address, the page requested, the time, and the browser identification string your browser sends. We keep these logs for 30 days, solely to keep the service running, to detect abuse and to see which parts of the site are used. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating a secure service (GDPR art. 6(1)(f)). Logs are not combined with other data and are not used to identify individual visitors.
Although the controller is established outside the EU, this site is offered to visitors in the EU and the GDPR therefore applies to it. Under the GDPR you can ask what data we hold about you, request correction or deletion, or object to the processing. Because we only hold short-lived technical logs, in practice this means we can tell you whether an IP address appears in the logs of the last 30 days and remove it on request. Contact noc@ipvolume.net. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Every five minutes we send 20 ICMP echo requests (and, for a small set of targets, one DNS query or HTTPS request) to each monitored address. This is comparable to a single user running ping and is well within normal internet use. Any network operator can ask to be added to the monitor, change its target address or be removed by mailing noc@ipvolume.net.
